I was largely raised in Ventura, California; my mother ran the household while my father worked to support the family. His entire career was spent working for the federal government, and all but one year was spent working for the Department of Defense. If anything, the political outlook that I was raised with was fairly Cold War, but not too pronounced.
I was taught that the Soviets were the bad guys, and my family generally supported politicians from the Democratic Party. My father was rather outraged when Nixon won the presidency in , and I was saddened when Reagan beat Carter in

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with someone being Jewish as long as he is not a racist, greedy, selfish, pervert but a decent person. Considering how badly Black Ethiopian Jews are being treated in Israel, that was secretly sterilizing them, even being Jewish does not protect you from being discriminated against by Jews.
The problem is that too many of them are too much in love with themselves, too corrupted, too perverted. Personality[ edit ] Ted’s character is based largely on the show’s creator, Carter Bays, with the friendship between him and fellow creator Craig Thomas being the base for the friendship between Ted and Marshall. His personality is also partially based on Ross Geller from the NBC sitcom Friends , including Ted’s original profession as an archaeologist being similar to Ross’ profession as a paleontologist. His profession was later changed to be an architect, due to the writers having difficulties fitting his profession as an archaeologist in a New York setting.
Ted is prone to questionable romantic gestures; in the pilot episode, for example, he steals a blue French horn nicknamed “The Smurf Penis” that was a topic of conversation in his first date with Robin, and then scares Robin off by telling her he is in love with her. He is seen cheering for the Cleveland Indians when they play the New York Yankees at a baseball game.
They go on a date, which Ted ruins by impulsively telling her he is in love with her. Eventually, Ted wins Robin over, and they start dating. Ted never quite gets over Robin, however.

We are repeatedly told these days that we have entered the terrifying new era of post-truth, in which not just particular facts but entire histories might be faked. But if this is the era of post-truth, when, exactly, was the halcyon age of truth? And what triggered our transition to the post-truth era? The rise of Putin and Trump?
A cursory look at history reveals that propaganda and disinformation are nothing new. In fact, humans have always lived in the age of post-truth. Homo sapiens is a post-truth species, who conquered this planet thanks above all to the unique human ability to create and spread fictions. We are the only mammals that can cooperate with numerous strangers because only we can invent fictional stories, spread them around, and convince millions of others to believe in them.
As long as everybody believes in the same fictions, we all obey the same laws and can thereby cooperate effectively. Please note that I am not denying the effectiveness or potential benevolence of religion — just the opposite. Centuries ago, millions of Christians locked themselves inside a self-reinforcing mythological bubble, never daring to question the factual veracity of the Bible, while millions of Muslims put their unquestioning faith in the Quran. Some fake news lasts forever.

The 10 Best TED Talks About Love
A relatively minor point, though not trivial, has been the issue of the biological relatedness of the Jewish people, and their relatedness to the nations among whom they were resident. This particular point became more starkly relevant with a scientific understanding of human genealogy and genetic relationship in the 18th and especially 19th centuries, but its root can be traced back to antiquity. Jews are not simply a set of individuals who espouse a belief in the God of the Jews, or hold to the laws of the God of the Jews.
Rather, one aspect of Jewish identity is its collective component whereby the adherents of the Jewish religion also conceive of themselves as a particular nation or tribe, and therefore bound together by a chain of biological descent.
